Trebuchet competition held at UBC Okanagan

It was a test of intellectual prowess in a medieval setting.

The 2013 Trebuchet competition was held at UBC Okanagan earlier today.

Students put their skills to the test, designing and building a trebuchet from scratch.

Organizers say the competition helps students apply what they’ve learned in the classroom in the real world.

“In engineering, it’s critical to learn problem solving and creative design skills,” said Robbie Scharma from the UBC Engineering Undergraduate Society. “And what’s better than having collaborative competitive environment working as a team and developing these specific skill sets.”

The teams were judged by how far and accurate they can shoot water balloons.

The Engineering Undergraduate Society is hoping to make this an annual event.
