Jets go on the road again

The Jets departed Winnipeg Sunday afternoon heading out on their 2nd last road trip of this lockout shortened NHL season.  The Jets still lead the Southeast Division – but its by no means secure following their loss to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Saturday.

The Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals are four points back of the Jets. Carolina with three games in hand, Washington with one after a 5-4 overtime loss to the Flyers Sunday.

Ondrej Pavelec says the Jets don’t need to look at the standings – “We know where we are.  We know the situation and its going to be a race until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile Claude Noel is hoping that Dustin Byfuglien can pick up his game for their remaining 12 games. “When he goes we go pretty good behind him” said the Jets Head Coach.  Byfuglien assessed his own play of  late to be up and down.  “Its a bit of a roller-coaster” said Byfuglien.  Adding that he felt for the most part his play has been pretty good.  Byfuglien leads all Jets defencemen in scoring with 6 goals and 21 points.  But is a minus 5 player over the last 10 games.

The Jets will play the Rangers Monday with a Tuesday game against the Islanders and will wind up their 3 games in 5 day road trip against the Candiens on Thursday.   While the Jets have struggled at home they have exceeded expectations away from MTS Centre with a 10 – 7 and 2 mark earning 22 of their 38 points to date this season.   “Two wins would go a mighty long way” according to defenceman Ron Hainsey.
