In 2010, the group purchased the northern half of the 48-hectare island, located about 20 kilometres south of Lunenburg.

A news release says the Natural Resources Department is contributing $200,000 and the conservancy group $187,500 to buy the remaining land.

It says the group will manage the island through a stewardship agreement with the province.
