The City of Kitchener has issued a warning to residents after receiving several complaints of people being contacted for phony water heater inspections.
A spokesperson for the city said that customers began calling Kitchener Utilities Monday, saying they had been contacted by Kitchener Utilities staff asking to create an appointment for a water heater inspection.
The spokesperson told Global News: “This is false. Kitchener Utilities is not calling customers to set up water heater inspection appointments.”
The city is uncertain what company name the callers have been using when contacting customers for these appointments.
City officials are also telling customers that they can contact their service providers to make certain that the request is legitimate before committing to an appointment.
