UPDATE: 97th Street re-opened after truck hits overpass

A truck heading south on 97th Street struck the bridge at 105th Avenue. A concrete girder broke apart into pieces and fell onto the road. 97th Street was later closed to all traffic. Bruce Edwards, Edmonton Journal

EDMONTON- A portion of 97th Street has been re-opened to traffic, after it was shut down by police earlier in the afternoon.

Around noon, the old CN Rail bridge at 97th Street and 105th Avenue was struck by a truck, causing structural damage to the bridge and a large amount of debris to fly onto the road.

As a result, 97th Street between 102nd A Avenue and 106th Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours. The road was closed to both vehicles and pedestrians while crews worked to clean up the area.

The cleanup took several hours, but the road was re-opened to traffic shortly after 4:00p.m. Thursday.

No one was injured in the collision.
