Several people were forced from their homes early Wednesday due to a fire at a south Edmonton fourplex.
Just before 2:30 a.m., six units were called to the blaze in the area of 108 Street and 62 Avenue.
The fire broke out in the basement of one of the suites in the fourplex. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services district chief Howard Samycia said no one was inside the suite at the time, but the other three suites had to be evacuated.
Samycia couldn’t say how many people were forced from their homes, but they were expected to be able to return later Wednesday morning.
“There was fire damage in the one suite and a little bit of smoke damage in some of the other suites but they are going to be habitable.”
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
