An elderly man is in hospital after being hit by a train in downtown London, bringing an end to a full-scale search prompted by his disappearance from a nursing home Tuesday night.
It was about 8:45 p.m. that the 87-year-old man was reported missing.
CN Rail contacted London police after the train hit the man at around 10 p.m. Witnesses said he’d been crossing the tracks near the VIA Rail station in the area of York and Wellington streets.
Emergency services responded to the area and found the victim, conscious and breathing. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where police say he remains in stable condition.
Earlier that night, police were asking for the public’s help finding an 87-year-old man named Peter Catterson, who’d been seen last in the area of Horton and Wellington streets around 8 p.m.
Police are not identifying the victim in the train incident.
