Third Avenue United Church in financial difficulties

Third Avenue United Church is facing a financial crisis and a decision on how to proceed with the sale of the downtown landmark has been deferred until a later date.

SASKATOON –Third Avenue United Church is facing a financial crisis.

The TAUC board met last night to discuss how to proceed after a recommendation to sell the downtown landmark to the Third Avenue Centre was rejected by the Presbytery executive on March 12.

According to the board, discussions between the two groups since then have not reached a satisfactory resolution.

The board had developed a financial plan based on selling the property to take the congregation through the summer.

It now says it is dealing with a serious shortfall and has decided to defer a decision on how to proceed with the sale until the next board meeting on April 24.

They also said they are pursuing the matter of the sale with the United Church.

TAUC says they are committed to preserving the church building and are determined to maintain its congregation in the building under new ownership.
