The body of a man was pulled from the Brazeau Dam reservoir on Saturday, eight days after the 29-year-old fell into the water in the remote part of west-central Alberta.
Emergency crews had been searching for the man’s body since Aug. 3, when RCMP were called to the reservoir at about 4:30 a.m.
“RCMP responded to the emergency and determined that the male fell over the edge after climbing up on the guard rail of the reservoir in the early hours of the morning,” police said in a news release.
An “extensive search” of the reservoir and the North Saskatchewan River didn’t turn up anything on that day, and the search later turned into a recovery mission as police believed the man had died.
Mounties searched the area by boat with help from parks and conservation officers, as well as firefighters from Drayton Valley and Clearwater County.
On Saturday, the man’s body was found by police and recovered from the water.
The Brazeau Reservoir is located about 250 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
