EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service says 30-year-old Hassan Isse Ismail, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder, turned himself into police Wednesday night.

EPS say Ismail was accompanied by his lawyer when he arrived at EPS Headquarters Wednesday at around 5 pm.

“The accused turned himself in on his own accord after meeting with a lawyer, and has yet to cooperate with investigators during the interview process,” stated Staff Sgt. Bill Clark, of the EPS Homicide Section.

Police believe Ismail is responsible for the death of Aden Ahmed, 24, who was fatally stabbed downtown Edmonton on Nov. 19, 2012.

Ahmed was found by police at a residence near 113 Avenue and 94 Street. Police say he died after suffering stab wounds from an alleged altercation involving several men.

March 20, EPS asked for the support of Edmonton’s Somali community to locate Ismail. At that time, police said they were surprised  that, after issuing a Canada-wide warrant, the suspect was still at large.
