The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) will soon be looking for a new director of transportation and public works.
Bruce Zvaniga, the current director, resigned from his post on Monday.
An HRM spokesperson has confirmed that Zvaniga will be leaving his position, but will remain director until September 21.

Nick Ritcey declined to provide the reason for Zvaniga’s decision to leave.
“We don’t share the reason for an employee’s departure, as it’s considered a personnel matter,” Ritcey wrote in an email.

The Star Halifax has reported that an email distributed to transportation staff this morning said Zvaniga is moving back to Ontario to be closer to his family.
Zvaniga joined the HRM as the director of transportation and public works in May 2015 after serving in a similar role for Burlington, Ont., for four years.
His exit comes at an interesting time for municipal transportation.
The municipality is implementing a multitude of transportation-oriented policies, including the Integrated Mobility Plan and the municipality’s Strategic Road Safety Framework.

Ritcey says that Beverly Audet, manager of road operations and construction, will take on the role of acting director once he leaves.
The city will begin an executive search process in the coming weeks — which Ritcey says is standard procedure when filling senior leadership roles.
