CALGARY- Suzuki owners may be concerned after the automaker confirmed it will stop selling new vehicles in Canada after the 2014 model year.
Suzuki is citing declining sales with only 5,500 vehicles sold in Canada last year.
David Baker of South Deerfoot Suzuki in Calgary, has already committed to keeping his dealership open and says he will continue to service Suzuki vehicles.
“If you bought a vehicle from us and use Suzuki, we’re going to look after you,” Baker says. “We’re not moving. This company is still in business. Suzuki is still in business, just doing things differently. “
The automaker has sent a letter to all 55 Suzuki dealerships across the country, asking them to remain open during the transition period in order to honour vehicle warranties. It will also continue to supply vehicle parts,
In the future, the company plans to focus on manufacturing motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.
Suzuki filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. in December and is no longer selling cars south of the border.
It will continue to sell vehicles overseas, in Japan and South America.
