11 people sick after eating at Englefeld Hogfest: Saskatchewan Health Authority

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says it’s investigating a salmonella outbreak linked with the Englefeld Hogfest.

As of this week, 11 people have reported symptoms related to the bacterial infection after eating at the event June 30. Health officials said 750 meals were served at the event.

No specific food exposure has been identified at this time.

The bacterial infection typically lasts four to seven days and most people develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps between 12 to 72 hours after infection.

Individuals can recover without treatment however, in some people, the symptoms may be severe enough to require hospitalization due to dehydration.

People experiencing severe symptoms or if the illness lasts more than three days, should contact their health care provider.

The Health authority is advising people with leftovers from this event to dispose of the food immediately.

Anyone who consumed food from Hogfest is asked to contact the public health disease control office at 306-655-4612.

Hogfest is a public gathering held annually in the village.

Englefeld is roughly 145 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
