Drivers driven to distraction

Police are attributing distracted driving as the cause of a series of crashes in West Kelowna Wednesday. They all happened in the area of Highway 97 and Bartley Road.

The first crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. when a dog caused a driver to be distracted.

“Apparently a dog running into traffic distracted one driver long enough for him to rear-end another, pushing the second driver’s vehicle into a third,” says Constable, Kris Clark.

A second crash happened shortly after.

“While dealing with the first crash, at 8:14 a.m., police had to respond to a second collision when a distracted driver rear-ended another. The driver indicated that he was looking at police dealing with the first crash.”

Clark says within minutes of the second crash, another one happened nearby.

“Several vehicles could no longer be driven and had to be removed by a tow truck.”

Clark says the crashes should serve as a reminder to motorists to keep their eyes on the road, especially seeing that the Easter long weekend is approaching.
