Editor’s Note: RCMP initially said five people were taken to hospital, but later said three people were taken to hospital while two others were treated on scene and released.
Three people were taken to hospital after four vehicles — including three law enforcement cruisers — collided on Highway 2 in Leduc on Friday morning.
RCMP said the crash happened at 9 a.m. on the QEII, south of the Highway 2A overpass. Two Alberta Sheriff SUVs, an RCMP vehicle and a Lexus SUV were involved in the crash.
“It appears the SUV was driving southbound and the two Sheriff vehicles and the RCMP vehicle were parked,” said Leduc RCMP Const. Bridget Morla.
RCMP said the officers were conducting speed enforcement at the time of the crash.
A photo supplied by RCMP showed extensive damage to one of the Sheriff vehicles.
All three people in the Lexus SUV were taken to hospital via ground ambulance, Morla said. The sheriffs were released on scene after being checked out by paramedics, she added.
RCMP said none of the injuries were serious.
The QEII southbound was reduced to one lane for a period of time Friday morning while police investigated the collision. The cause is not yet known. The highway reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
