Wanuskewin Thundering Ahead campaign gets $3M boost from Nutrien

The Wanuskewin Thundering Ahead campaign is one step closer to reaching its goal.

Saskatoon-based fertilizer company Nutrien announced a $3 million donation to the campaign on Wednesday.

Wanuskewin aims to obtain world heritage designation through a total park renewal.

“This campaign and the ultimate goal of (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) world heritage designation relies on continued support,” campaign co-chair Felix Thomas said in a press release.

“We in Saskatchewan are fortunate that Nutrien has stepped forward in the spirit of reconciliation and corporate citizenship.”

Wanuskewin launched the $40-million campaign in February 2017.

Thundering Ahead’s vision also includes introducing a herd of bison to Wanuskewin’s plains.

Located five kilometers north of Saskatoon, Wanuskewin Heritage Park has been host to historic events such as a royal visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1986.
