For more details check out the Edmonton Journal annual Gift Guide insert
this Wednesday. Here is a selection of a couple of “starter” cameras and great
enthusiast models.

-For long zoom range, the Nikon Coolpix L610 16 MP, $200, 14X
optical zoom lens fits the bill. It shoots great full HD video with pro-zooming
and has 19 scene selections or Easy Auto mode. Runs on two AA batteries for far
away shoots.

-The Canon PowerShot ELPH 320 HS, $200, 16.1 MP 5X zoom has WiFi for
sharing images with other WiFi Canons, iOS and Android devices.  The  3.2-inch LCD touchscreen lets you focus and
shoot with one tap.

-Canon’s newest 18MP EOS Rebel T4i DSLR, $729, with kit 18-55mm
zoom shoots quality photos in any light. New AF System improves performance in
Live View mode for movies and stills. It now has a vari-angle Touch Screen
3.0-inch monitor.

-Looking as good as it shoots,  the mirrorless interchangeable lens 16 MP Fujifilm
X-E1, $1,399.99 with 3X 27-84mm F2.8-4 quality lens is premium all the way. It
has the most important dials and buttons for quicklt changing exposures while
shooting. The eye-popping 2.36 Million Dot Organic LED is sharper than lab
prints, as is the bright digital viewfinder…it has the same size sensor as the
Canon Rebel, T4i, above, but its superior optics, for almost twice the price,
makes it a top contender for professional cameras.
