An investigation and cleanup is underway after a car smashed into the waiting room of a medical clinic in northwest Edmonton Monday morning.
Shortly before 7 a.m., a car drove through the front window and into the DynaLife clinic near 128 Street and 140 Avenue, causing extensive damage.
Maigarette and Bill Harrison were waiting for the clinic to open at 7 a.m. when they saw the collision. Bill was still in their vehicle when the crash happened.
“He went by me,” he said. “I was lucky I didn’t open the door and get out.”
“I heard an awful crash and I looked up. There was glass and everything flying, glass on my car, and I realized that somebody had gone though.
“But boy, was he travelling when he went through that window.”
Maigarette said she had just gotten out of their vehicle and had walked to the front door, when the car crashed through the building behind her. Thankfully, the collision happened before the clinic had opened so no one inside was injured.
“Had it been later, the waiting room would have been full of patients,” Maigarette said.
The Harrisons said a man was driving and he was able to walk away on his own, after paramedics helped him out of the car after the crash.
Edmonton police said officers responded at around 7:30 a.m., and arrived to find a 55-year-old man had driven his vehicle into the building.
Police said no one outside was hurt either.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. Damage has been pegged at more than $100,000. There’s no word on any charges.
DynaLife said the location will be closed until further notice. It is contacting each patent who an appointments booked at the Pallisades location.
DynaLife suggests walk-in patients use the Northgate and St. Albert locations in the meantime, and said updates would be posted to its website.
