Man seriously injured in stabbing at rest stop near Airdrie

Airdrie RCMP and Calgary police continue to search for a suspect after a stabbing at Dickenson Stevenson Rest Stop at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The rest stop is located along Highway 2, south of Highway 72 in Rocky View County near Airdrie, Alta.

Paramedics said a man was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious condition, suffering from traumatic injuries. On Tuesday, RCMP said the man is still recovering from his injuries.

RCMP, the Calgary police HAWCS helicopter, the emergency response team and police dogs were sent to the area to assist in the investigation.

RCMP said a lone suspect fled the area in a vehicle. Officials asked the public to stay away from the area.

RCMP were searching for a black 2009 Buick Enclave with Alberta licence plate BZB 2297. Police said Tuesday that the vehicle was located in the Edmonton area late Sunday night. The search continues for the suspect.

“The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Please do not approach the suspect or suspect vehicle. If seen, please contact 911 or your local police,” RCMP said in a news release.

In an earlier release, RCMP said they had been called to the rest stop for reports of shots fired.
