Nearly one year after a brutal quadruple homicide, Calgary police are still searching for answers in the investigation.
The bodies of Glynnis Fox, Cody Pfeiffer and Tiffany Ear were found in a burned-out vehicle in the community of Sage Hill on July 10.
Two days later, officers found the body of Hanock Afowerk along Highway 22 and Highway 8, just west of the city.
Homicide investigators determined the four deaths were connected.
Yu Chieh Liao, who goes by Diana Liao, and Tewodros Mutugeta Kebede were charged with first-degree murder in Afowerk’s death.
Both also face three charges of accessory to murder after the fact in the deaths of Fox, Ear and Pfeiffer.
As the investigation continues, police are now looking to identify anyone using the Saskatchewan-based phone number 306-381-2088 between the dates of Sunday, July 9 and Monday, July 10, 2017.
The phone number was disconnected shortly after the homicides, police said, and checks on subscriber information brought investigators back to a fictitious person.
“We have exhausted all investigative means to determine the user of this phone… it does come back to a fictitious person,” Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta said Thursday.
“That’s why we’re asking the public to come forward and help us identify the person that was using that particular phone number.”
They’re also looking to identify a person that goes by the nickname “Bleezy.”
Police believe the homicides may have been motivated by financial gain.
“We know that the people involved in this investigation are known to each other and we want to ensure we hold everyone responsible who participated in the four murders that occurred last year,” Schiavetta said.
