$21M in highway construction underway near Saskatchewan provincial parks

The roads to some Saskatchewan provincial parks are about to get a little smoother.

Construction is underway for over $21 million in improvements to some of the most popular parks in the province.

“Saskatchewan is home to some of the most beautiful lakes and parks Western Canada has to offer,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said in a press release on Thursday.

“These construction projects will make the drive to and from the lake both safer and smoother.”

Highway construction projects include:

• surfacing on Highway 2 north of Moose Jaw near Buffalo Pound;
• bridge rehabilitation north of Swift Current on Highway 4 at Saskatchewan Landing;
• surfacing on the eastbound lanes of Highway 11 near Regina Beach Access;
• surfacing on Highway 21 south of Maple Creek near Cypress Hills;
• construction on Highway 322 near Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park; and
• construction on Highway 913 near Candle Lake.

Drivers are being reminded to obey signs and slow to 60 kilometres per hour through work zones.

In construction zones where workers are not present, drivers are still required to slow down. A sharp pavement drop or loose stones are examples of hazards that warrant a reduced speed limit.
