The NX 200 is an example how technology can take an already good product and shrink it down in size with even more features.
I took the NX200 with standard kit 18-55 OIS zoom lens, but it was the combination of a well designed, compact and powerful 20.3 megapixel camera and the new 85mm SSA superfast f 1.4 “portrait” lens than created gorgeous photography in the Big Apple.
The NX 200 is light but with the massive 1.4 85mm lens it weighed considerably more but the combination of shallow lens focus and precise camera autofocus and image stabilization, made for great photos. The 85mm “portrait” lens as Samsung likes to call it, takes striking portraits of people and pets, at an aperture of f1.4,with small depth of field as to show sharp face features while blurring the foreground and background out.
But this incredibly fast lens is also great for any available light photos, taking in eight times more light at its widest aperture compared to kit zoom lenses. The example above is a foggy night time Empire State building shot with the NX 200 at ISO 100, 1/60th second at f 1.4 with the 85mm medium telephoto lens… hand-held.
