Bring your scrap for cash and donate to the Global Angel Charity

While the yard might just look like a pile of scrap, Nurse Scrap Metal is Crushing for a Cause.

“People who bring in their scrap can donate their money that they would get for it, to the global charity,” said Adam Huggins, general labour at Nurse Scrap Metal.

The Global Angel Charitable organization was founded in 2007 in Peterborough. The scrap yard has been collecting donations for them since April 9, 2018.

“Last year, probably the number of cases we were able to assist with were at least 1,000,” said chairperson of Global Angel Charitable Organization, Elaine Hartwell.

“We provide financial assistance for persons requiring medical transportation for situations such as going away from home for medical treatments, that are very crucial, lifesaving treatments. They may have been able to pay for the treatment but don’t have the money to get there,” she adds.

For every piece of metal and electronics dropped off to nurse scrap metal, a cash payment is received.

“It’s all based on weight, so they come in, they hit our big scale and it gives off a weight and they come over, they drop off their scrap, we’ll come out, give them a hand and then they hit the scale again. It gives their offload and they get paid for it,” said Huggins.

That is when the client can choose to donate their entire payment, or a portion, to the Global Angel Charitable Foundation.

“I think we’re sitting at a little over $2,400 dollars right now for it. Angels of Flight have been donating an ambulance each year for us to crush, and the payout on that is about $900,” said Huggins.

Last year, global angel raised $4,000 through crushing for a cause.

There will be a BBQ with pulled pork and drinks on Saturday from 8 until noon at the Nurse Scrap Metal Yard. You can bring your scrap and cash, and donate directly to the Global Angel Charity.
