TORONTO – Starting Monday, residents of the Greater Toronto Area can expect to start dialing a new area code.
Phone companies will begin distributing a 437 area code in Toronto to go along with the existing 416 and 647 dialing codes. A 365 area code will be added to regions served by the existing 905/289 regions.

The new codes will provide additional phone numbers with no impact on existing numbers within each region.
“These new area codes reflect the growing use of cell phones and other mobile devices,” Glenn Pilley, Director of the Canadian Numbering Administrator, said in a statement. “We expect the first numbers with the new area codes to be assigned over the coming months as part of a seamless transition process.”
