One person is dead following a collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck on Highway 22X near Indus Wednesday morning.
Emergency crews were called just before 8:30 a.m., according to EMS.
RCMP said the pickup was driving westward on the highway when it collided with the semi-truck, which was travelling east.
Not long after the first crash, a second semi-truck travelling west crashed into the other two vehicles.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 45-year-old man from Rocky View County, was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said.
The drivers of the semis were not seriously injured.
Viewer photos of the scene showed plumes of black smoke billowing from the crash site.
Global1 helicopter footage showed the semi-truck completely burned.
RCMP said a collision analyst was called to the scene and is helping with the investigation.
The man killed in the crash has been identified as Mark Duffin.
His uncle Philip Boyes remembers him as a loving family man and overall, genuine and kind person.
“Mark was like a little brother to me,” Boys said. “I trained him, taught him how to play football. He was our ball boy and touch football many years ago.”
“He got along with everybody. He was one of the nicest guys in the world and I can say that not just being his uncle.”
