History

Tahsis once served as the gateway to an active trade route that took travellers right across Vancouver Island to the other coast.

It was the place where the Chief Maquinna had his home, where he was visited by explorers including Capt. Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra and Capt. George Vancouver.

The west coast of Vancouver Island would become an attractive location for logging in the early 20th century, making it an important industry for Tahsis.

Loggers would build floating homes that were later hauled ashore, and a village started to expand.
