Scott Thompson: Irrelevant whether Ford can fire Hydro One CEO, Ontarians like change in fiscal attitude

Ontario PC Party leader Doug Ford says he will fire the CEO of Hydro One, and the entire board, if elected premier in the next election.

Hydro One CEO Mayo Schmidt was paid $6.2 million last year, much more than others holding the same position in other provinces.

This was a problem for the Liberals long before the sell-off Hydro One shares.

Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault said firing the CEO will do nothing to lower electricity costs.

It’s a little late for that, and it certainly is not the point at all. The point is, changing a culture of entitlement and lack of accountability.

When the CEO is so overpaid, it’s easy to see how there may be inefficiencies in the operation from the very top right on down to the poor taxpayer.

If Ford can’t fire these overpaid executroids, Ontarians are convinced he’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The taxpayers do not trust the lack of fiscal responsibility of the Kathleen Wynne Liberals who have had plenty of time to prove their worth.

I don’t think Ontarians care whether Ford can fire the Hydro One CEO. What they like is the change in attitude that respects their hard-earned taxpayer dollar.

That’s good enough for them, and the message Kathleen Wynne has failed to hear.
