Okanagan residents up and down the valley are sporting hockey jerseys today in support of the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
The nationwide initiative #JerseysforHumboldt was first proposed on social media by a group of hockey parents in B.C. as a way to honour the Saskatchewan junior hockey team.
On April 6, the Humboldt Broncos were headed north to Nipawin, Sask., for a playoff game when their bus collided with a semi-truck at a remote intersection near Tisdale, Sask.
Sixteen passengers have died and 13 others were injured.
Okanagan residents are taking to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to show their support for “Jersey Day.”
“Being a mom of a little boy that plays hockey, my heart breaks to all those families that have lost their little boys that haven’t experienced life yet,” said Darelyn, who sent a photo of her children donning hockey jerseys to Global Okanagan.
“Canada is with you. Hugs and support to everyone affected.”
