For a typical Edmonton home worth $397,000, the tax hike translates to an increase of $83 per year, to $2,468.

The 3.5 per cent increase breaks down as follows:

  • 1.4 per cent for neighbourhood renewal
  • 0.6 per cent for Valley Line LRT
  • 1.5 per cent for municipal services (one per cent directly for the Edmonton Police Service)

“Property taxes enable the city to provide Edmontonians with a full range of services people use and depend on every day,” said Rod Risling, branch manager of assessment and taxation.
