Defenceman Keegan Lowe will make his Edmonton Oilers debut Thursday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.

“This obviously has sentimental value to myself and my family,” Lowe said. “It’s always been my M.O. to work harder than everyone else. I’ll give it my all every shift. That’s why I’ve got to this point.”

“He’s a solid defender, plays physical, fierce competitor when it comes down to it,” head coach Todd McLellan said.

Lowe’s father, Kevin Lowe, played 1,037 games as an Oiler and is currently a vice-chair with the Oilers Entertainment Group.

Keegan, 25, played in the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings. He was drafted in the third round by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2011, but played only two NHL games with the Hurricanes.

The Oilers signed him as a free agent last summer. With the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, he has 14 points in 49 games.

“The thing I’ve learned from older guys in the American League is frustration never helps. I can honestly says at no point have I have been frustrated. I’ve been having my best season as a pro down there,” said Lowe.

The Oilers expected lineup against Vegas is:

Nugent-Hopkins – McDavid – Rattie

Khaira – Draisaitl – Puljujarvi

Lucic – Strome – Caggiula

Slepyshev – Cammalleri – Kassian

Nurse – Larsson

Russell – Bear

Lowe – Benning
