Wednesday

Temperatures plunged back to -20 Wednesday morning with wind chills making it feel as cold as -26 to start the day under partly cloudy skies.

We managed to make it up toward minus single digits by noon with lots of sunshine helping fuel the rapid warm up.

The mercury spiked up to the highest point it has made it to so far this April, to -5 for an afternoon high, which is still over 10 degrees colder than our normal daytime high of +8 for this time of the year.

-28 is around what it’ll feel like Thursday morning with wind chill under mostly cloudy skies with a good chance of snow moving in and continuing into the afternoon before easing off later on.

Cool north-northwesterly winds will also kick up during the day with gusts upwards of 40 km/h with temperatures expected to remain in minus double digits all day as the polar vortex pushes in over the area.

An arctic high pressure system then surges in on Friday and blankets us in extremely cold air with wind chills diving into the -30 to -40 range to start the day as the mercury falls into the -20s, breaking our previous record low of -20.0 from 1920.

Beautiful blue skies will stick around through the day as we rise up to an afternoon high just into minus single digits.

Sunny skies will stick around for the morning before clouds build in later on as a system moves in on Sunday that may bring in some accumulating snow, the amount still up in the air, with daytime highs in mid-minus single digits both days.
