Fire crews responded to a grass fire near the Allan Brooks Nature Centre in the Vernon area on Tuesday afternoon.
A board member with the centre spotted the fire from Highway 97 around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The blaze was burning in the grass below the nature centre.

“Fire crews arrived and they started digging some trenches around it. It looks like they have it under control right now,” Vicki Proulx, the centre’s events and communications co-ordinator, said.
Proulx said the fire does not appear to be spreading at this point but there were earlier concerns it could burn towards the centre.
“It was really windy up here today so it was a little bit scary,” Proulx said.
