West Vancouver police are warning people to be alert when walking their pets after a dog fell ill during a walk in the forest on Sunday.

Turns out, the dog had ingested Phencyclidine (PCP). But it’s not clear when, or how it happened.

Originally produced as an anesthetic used by veterinarians, PCP is known to exist in liquid and powdered forms.

West Vancouver police said there’s no “direct indication” of how the PCP was consumed in the first place.

Meanwhile, the dog owner told police that the dog wasn’t witnessed consuming anything or acting unusually before it fell sick.

This isn’t the first time that a dog has become ill after ingesting PCP.

At least two dogs were sickened after they ate PCP at Kits Beach last year.

In that incident, the dogs didn’t appear to fall ill until an hour and a half after they left the beach.
