A wind warning put in place on Monday remained in effect for some southern Alberta regions on Tuesday.
The original warning stretched from Kananaskis to Magrath. On Tuesday, the Kananaskis region was dropped from the warning.
Environment Canada said strong westerly winds were expected to develop Tuesday morning with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
The agency warned that damage to buildings, windows and roof shingles may occur. It also warned Albertans to watch out for “loose objects that may be tossed by the wind” that could result in injuries.
Crowsnest Pass RCMP said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that Highway 22 was closed from Highway 3 north to Highway 533, due to high winds and winter driving conditions. Highway 22 reopened shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Tuesday they responded “to several vehicles and four semis that have rolled or entered the ditch due to wind today on Highway 22.”
“Winds are reported to be reaching 130km/h in some areas which can result in large vehicles like semi tractor-trailers or holiday trailers being flipped or blown off the road,” RCMP said in the release.
