For the first time ever a Kingston school wins a medal at the OFSSA boys hockey tournament – Mar 26, 2018

The Holy Cross Crusaders did something that no other school in the Kingston area has been able to accomplish. They won a medal at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) hockey championships in St. Catharines.

The Crusaders came home with the silver medal after losing the championship game on March 23rd to the Brooklin High School Bears from Whitby 3-1.

“It was an amazing experience,” said graduating forward Jake Jefferies.

“Coming from Kingston, nobody expected us to do well and seeding us 12th in the tournament gave us that extra motivation.”

“We played with a chip on our shoulders and proved that we belong with the best in the province,” continued Jefferies, who will attend Queen’s University next fall on a football scholarship.

For the Kingston high school champs coached by Tony Clarke, it will be a season to remember. He said being the first boys team from the region to win a medal at OFSSA was truly a special moment for everyone involved.

“It’s something amazing that we’ll always hold with us,” said Crusaders captain Jarryd Herron.

He said that although there was a wide mix of students from grades 10 to 13, they all came together and played as a team.

“We made Kingston proud, and Holy Cross proud” added Herron. “We’re all proud of what we were able to accomplish. It feels amazing and everybody is pretty happy. It’s an experience we will share forever.”

The Holy Cross girls team won a bronze medal back in 2014.
