4 people injured in Memorial Dr. E. accident Wednesday

Four people were injured after the car they were in was rear-ended Wednesday night.

The vehicle was sitting at a red light around 10:45 p.m. on westbound Memorial Drive East by 28 St. S.E. in Calgary when it was struck from behind by a pick-up truck, Calgary police said.

“The car, which was carrying three passengers in addition to the driver, rotated clockwise and came to rest on the northeast corner median of the intersection,” police said in a news release Thursday.

A 20-year-old man, who was sitting behind the driver, was sent to the hospital with critical injuries

The other people in the car received minor injuries.

Police said the pickup truck driver was not hurt and was arrested for impaired driving. Excess speed was not a factor in the crash, they said.

Charges have not been laid and the investigation continues, police said.
