Ted Wernham, a fixture in London’s municipal politics and financial circles, has died.

The former city councillor for Ward 7 passed away Monday night. He was 65.

He spent four terms with city council between 1985 and 1998, and also spent eight years with the London Transit Commission during the 1980s.

“He was very protective of the ward he was in and made sure people were looked after well,” said Bud Polhill, who served on council alongside Wernham beginning in 1988.

Wernham was also a financial professional, who helped clients through retirement planning and wealth coaching.

He hosted a weekly program on 980 CFPL, Retirement Ready Radio.

“Ted was bigger than life, when he walked into the room, certainly he had the charisma,” said longtime London broadcaster Steve Garrison.

“He gave food for thought and that was Ted. Whenever you talked to him, whenever you heard him on the radio, there was always a message and there was always something to learn from Ted.”

Wernham is survived by his wife, Earlene, their eight children and six grandkids.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Forest City Community Church, 3725 Bostwick Road.
