NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A new hotel is coming to North Battleford.
Last night, city councillors approved a tax exemption for the 80 room hotel, which will be located on two acres of land in the south east commercial district.
The five-year exemption is contingent on construction starting this year and amounts to 100 per cent, 100 per cent, 75 per cent, 50 per cent and 25 per cent over the five year period.

The unnamed hotel franchise must also participate in the collection of a destination marketing fee with the Battlefords Hotel Association.
Also last night, council approved new traffic bylaw fines.
Starting today, early payment for a parking infraction in downtown or residential areas jumps to $20 from $12 and illegally parking in handicap, fire lanes and safety areas is now a $150 fine with early payment increased to $100.
Fines for driving around barricades and through closed roadways is now $300, an increase of $200 and the fine for obstructing any public highway, public property or sidewalk is way up – from $60 to $500.
Council also simplified waste management fees and is offering a 33 per cent discount to residents showing proper identification.
