Greg Sorbara stepping down as Ontario Liberal party’s campaign chairman

TORONTO – Veteran Ontario Liberal Greg Sorbara is stepping down as the party’s campaign chairman.

Party spokeswoman Christine McMillan confirms that Sorbara won’t be guiding the party through the next election.

Sorbara resigned his seat in Vaughan last year, saying he wanted to focus his attention on the next campaign.

But the former campaign mastermind who was a key player in the Dalton McGuinty government is passing the torch to a new group.

McMillan says Health Minister Deb Matthews and Tim Murphy, chief of staff to former prime minister Paul Martin, will co-chair the next campaign.

The minority Liberal government could face an election this spring unless one of the opposition parties supports their budget.

Sorbara’s the latest member of the old guard to make an exit since Premier Kathleen Wynne took the helm.

Former finance minister Dwight Duncan and ex-energy minister Chris Bentley both resigned their seats last month.
