A proposed coal transfer terminal on the Fraser River is causing concern for a local environmental group in Surrey.
Last night, a community meeting was held by Voters Taking Action Against Climate Change to rally support for their cause.
The group says exporting U.S. coal from Surrey is a threat to the environment, causing more greenhouse gases and polluting the Lower Mainland.
The U.S. would deliver the coal by train and then taken to Texada Island to be exported to Asia.
If the terminal is approved, coal exports from the Fraser port would double.
