Police declined to say what type of disturbance they were investigating or if the suspect was armed.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating. ASIRT investigates incidents involving law enforcement officers across the province that result in serious injury or death, as well as sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
The RCMP said it remains the lead investigating agency with regard to the events leading up to the shooting.
