Kelowna RCMP are investigating a possible child luring incident.
Police received a complaint Thursday afternoon that a nine-year-old boy walking along Baron Road was asked if he wanted a ride home.
The offer was made by a woman driving a dirty, white minivan and wearing a white sweater.
“The female then reportedly offered the boy a toy but the child declined and continued his walk home,” said Cst. Lesley Smith in a news release.
Patrols of the area failed to locate a matching vehicle and driver.
Police want to talk to the motorist for a possible explanation and commend the child for his actions.
On her Facebook page, Darcie Mulholland says she is the boy’s mother and offers a warning to parents of students at Springvalley Elementary.
“Just wanted to give you all a heads up about it, always good to have the stranger talk with your kids again and again. Proud of my son for doing exactly the right thing in that situation, he’s a little shaken up but home and safe,” reads the post.
RCMP also remind parents to discuss personal awareness and safety strategies with their children.
