The Edmonton Oilers will be without forwards Patrick Maroon and Drake Caggiula Thursday night when they host the Colorado Avalanche.

“Patty is not traded,” said head coach Todd McLellan.

“I know that’s what people think. He’s got a lower body injury that we consider minor. He won’t play tonight. I believe that he’ll play in Los Angeles on Saturday.”

Caggiula is fighting an illness. That means Yohann Auvitu will come into the lineup. He could play both forward and defence against the Avs.

Colorado continues to fight for a playoff spot, sitting three points out coming into Thursday’s action. They’re led by Nathan MacKinnon, who has racked up 65 points in 51 games.

“He has a shot. He’s fast. His speed and his power, you don’t see that very often around the league,” said defenceman Darnell Nurse. “He also likes to play physical and bully guys around the offensive zone.”

“He’s so explosive. He’s such a good skater. He’s so powerful. He has very good hands, has a great shot,” said captain Connor McDavid.

The Oilers have just one win in their last eight games, though it came against the Avalanche on Sunday when McDavid had a hat trick in a 4-2 win.
