It’s back to the books for students of Robert Thirsk High School on Wednesday after classes were cancelled Tuesday due to building problems.
The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) closed the school late Tuesday morning as maintenance crews dealt with frozen water lines. The CBE told Global News the problem started at some point during the Family Day long weekend.
In a message sent to parents Tuesday, the CBE said the decision was made to close the school for the remainder of the day as the frozen lines left students with limited heat, a limited water supply and restricted access to restroom facilities. The board said the decision was made to ensure the well-being of students.

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, the board said classes would resume although work would continue in an attempt to identify the cause of the problem.
The school is one of the CBE’s newer sites, opening its doors in northwest Calgary in September 2013. Just seven months later in March 2014, the school was forced to cancel classes for a day after a plumbing issue caused extensive flooding.
