Hockey Hall of Fame brings interactive games, jerseys and trophies to Lindsay Armoury for Family Day – Feb 19, 2018

It was a fun way to spend Family Day for hockey fans in Lindsay.

The Hockey Hall of Fame brought a display of old jerseys, interactive games and trophies including the Hart and Vezina to the Lindsay Armoury.

The event was put on by the Olde Gaol Museum and Kawartha Art Gallery and was free to the public.

“We’re just showing people that culture is more than just a painting on the wall or a piece of old pottery in a museum.  It’s about hockey and life in the community,” said David Wesley, manager of the Olde Gaol Museum.

Hundreds of people filed into the armoury for the five-hour event including Mike Price and his two sons, Jack and Leo, who made the trek down from Innisfil, near Barrie.

“We came down because we heard Ron was signing autographs and to see all the trophies and memorabilia,” said Price.

Lindsay native Ron Ellis, who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1963 – 1981, made an appearance to sign autographs and mingle with fans.

“It’s a real pleasure to come home.  As soon as I came in, I saw the kids and the games,” said Ellis.  “I like to talk to people.  If they have things they want signed, I’ll be happy to do it.”

This event along with the Stanley Cup’s appearance in Lindsay in January were called successes by the organizers. They hope to have more events like it in the future.
