The province has been promising a new cancer centre in Calgary for years.

In 2005, then-Premier Ralph Klein promised a billion dollars for cancer facilities in Calgary and Edmonton.

The new facility will be built at the Foothills Medical Centre, and when it opens, the space that now houses the Tom Baker Cancer Centre will be used for by the Foothills Hospital for other clinical purposes.

The Tom Baker Cancer Centre is 32-years-old and reached capacity a decade ago.
