CALGARY- Police conducted road stops in the community of Sandstone on Thursday, in hopes of getting more tips about a deadly hit and run that left a woman dead.
“It’s a major incident, a major investigation, and this was the first time we thought we’d try this and see how it works for us,” explained Sgt. Colin Foster of the Calgary Police Service. “So far, it’s been quite useful.”
56-year-old Wong Shuk Yee was crossing Sandstone Drive on her way to work around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, when she was struck by a red Ford Taurus. Police believe she was laying on the roadway, when she was hit by a second vehicle just moments later.
Both vehicles fled the scene.
About an hour later, a man called police, admitting he was involved in a hit and run. 24-year-old Steven Jonathan Vanasse of Calgary has since been charged with hit and run causing death.
Police are still searching for what’s believed to be a small, dark-coloured sedan, and say there is a chance the driver was not aware they hit someone.
They’d also like to speak with two other drivers who swerved to avoid Yee as she lay in the street.
