The RCMP have taken over the investigation into a huge apartment fire in Burnaby that’s left dozens of families with nowhere to live.
Several pets were killed and the four-storey building was destroyed when the fire broke out early yesterday morning in the 3500 block of Smith Avenue near Canada Way.

Residents were forced to scramble to windows and balconies as the flames rapidly grew.
Some are already raising concerns over the building’s maintenance and upkeep.
