Instead, Amy and Tyler Muir welcomed their bundle of joy just as people across the Alberta were ringing in the New Year.

Calgary’s New Year’s baby was born at 12:00:12 a.m. at the Rockyview General Hospital.

Mom Amy said Monday she didn’t’ expect to have a New Year’s baby because she went into labour on Saturday.

But Remington James Muir wanted to wait – and came into the world weighing 8 pounds 15 ounces. Mom and baby are healthy and happy.

“This woman’s a champion,” Tyler said. “Over 40 hours of labour is incredible.”

The couple said the excitement of having a new baby grew even more once they realized their son would be born in the New Year.

Remington is the couple’s fourth child. They also have a 13-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old son and a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

“I think they’re all desperately in love,” Amy said. “It’s pretty cool.”
