An extreme cold warning has been ended for Calgary after a weekend of frigid temperatures and even colder wind chills.
The warning was issued Friday afternoon by Environment Canada, which was forecasting “a prolonged period of very cold wind chills.”
The weekend saw arctic air set in with temperatures dipping as low as -28 C and wind chills of -41.
Many other parts of the province were also under extreme cold warnings, including Edmonton, Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House.
The New Year brought a new weather pattern, though, and temperatures are set to climb steadily, reaching a high of 4 C on Thursday.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when conditions make for an elevated health risk of conditions like frostbite and hypothermia.
